Led by Adelaide Adrenaline & Avalanche Alumni, the South Australian Ice Sports community are rallying together to raise valuable funds for the CFS Foundation and Kangaroo Island Mayoral Relief and Recovery Bushfire Fund.
On Saturday February 8, the Ice Sports community will gather together to see some of the greatest ice hockey players this state has witnessed go head to head in a charity hockey game – The Bushfire Appeal Ice Hockey Classic
"The Locals" will take on "The Rest of the World" to try to raise money for bushfire support.
The ‘Locals’ will feature the best players born in South Australia. ‘The Rest of World’ will be composed of the best players born outside Australia but played for Adelaide.
Player like Josh Harding, Greg Oddy, Corey Smith, Ben and Luke Thilthorpe have already committed to the Locals. They’ll go into battle with the likes of Trevor Walsh, Glen Foll, Craig Campbell, Josef Rezek and Kerry Goulet (Director of Ice Hockey Classic and Stop Concussions Foundation) on Team World.
Current Adelaide Rush women's players like Tash Farrier and import Lizzie Aveson will join the teams as well. John Botterill and Gordon Cochrane will coach the teams
The game, chaired by AIHL leading scorer Greg Oddy, will consist of 3 x 15 periods.
"It’s great to see so many players throw their support behind this initiative. There will be a lot of big names, familiar faces both past and present getting out there and wanting to put on a good show and raise some money," says Oddy.
SAISF and The IceArena have come on board and donated the ice time. Adelaide Adrenaline and IHSA have offered to assist with game day operations. Figure Skating SA and Broomball SA have also thrown their support behind the event with intermission performances & demonstrations scheduled.
"It's remarkable to see everyone from all different codes of ice sports jump on board to make this happen," Oddy adds.
Tickets are $20, regardless of age, with 100% of proceeds going to the CFS Foundation and the KI Mayoral Relief and Recovery Bushfire Fund. All people entering the building will have to purchase a ticket. No player passes, as all goes to a great cause! So make sure you jump online and get them while you can!
Puck drop is at 3:15pm. Tickets are available at https://www.trybooking.com/BHUBL
"This whole concept has gained some serious momentum over the past few days. Everybody is jumping on board offering to get involved and help. It’s great for the SA Ice Sports community. Lot of us feel helpless watching these tragic events unfold so the fact we can play our part in helping those impacted makes it that much better," says Oddy.
"This is going to be huge, we really want to fill the IceArena and raise as much money as possible"
The CFS Foundation provides financial assistance to CFS volunteer firefighters and their families who have suffered through injury, death, and the loss or damage of property while in the line of service. 100% of all the money in the KI Mayoral Relief and Recovery Bushfire Fund will be going directly to the people whose homes, properties and businesses have been impacted by the bushfires.
There will be further fundraising opportunities including a bar, raffle & auction items and a jersey auction with 100% of the proceeds going to bushfire relief.
Custom jerseys, designed by Adelaide's own Amy Kershaw, will be revealed in the coming days.
We encourage all fans to jump on board and support this great cause! Tickets are expected to sell out.
