“I did what I needed to do. There’s a lot more on what I can improve on but going forward, it’s just trying to be more of a presence on the ice, more of a presence on the bench, and be a better teammate”, Julian Friederich on his first game back with the Adelaide Adrenaline after sustaining an injury in Perth and being out for three weeks.
The game saw a pair of brothers on the ice together but on opposite teams. Here’s Dominik Trnka’s response when asked about playing against his brother, Matus Trnka, who stood in net for the Brisbane Lightning, “Versing my brother was a really special experience. I’ve never experienced anything like that with a great crowd. The fact that we got to the game in the same car makes it so much better – we chirped each other on the way here.”
“It was great to see a big crowd tonight… It always brings a good energy in the building. Everybody gets loud. It pumps the guys up, it keeps us moving through”, Adelaide Captain Joey MacDougall’s thoughts on the impressive crowd turnout for Canada Day.
Game 1 saw the Adelaide Adrenaline’s line-up a little different than usual due to injuries and suspensions. This is what Nathaniel Benson, said about the adjustments the team had to make for tonight, “When you have someone new come in, it take a step to figure things… It’s really just up to us to work it all out and deal with what we can but at the end of the day, we just had to be better.”
