The Adelaide Adrenaline deliver a commanding 7-2 win against the Central Coast Rhinos in front of stellar Home Crowd!
After two weekends on the road, the Adrenaline returned to the IceArena barrelling almost 50 shots on goal to prove their strong offensive abilities, getting their first home win of the season.
Adelaide had come close to securing a home win before, only to fall short during the final moments. Despite the rough start of the season, this victory was a statement of the team’s resilience and growth.
The pace that was set by Adelaide started in the first period where they capitalised on man-advantages to get the opening they needed.
Remy McGuiness was the first to score, getting the puck past heavy traffic in front of the net to get it past the Rhinos’ goaltender. A few minutes later, Zach Boyle doubled the lead when he shot the puck from the blueline - both goals scored on the powerplay.
Central Coast didn’t back down and found the back of Adelaide’s net with four minutes left in the first period to make it a 2-1 game.
The second period saw Roman Nekludovs and Josh Adkins each add to the scoresheet, with the pair working together to set each other up and they ended the second period with a 4-2 lead.
The well-built momentum they had continued on as they extended their scoring by three more goals in period three – Coy Prevost scoring on his second home debut, Roman Nekludovs getting his second goal of the game,
and rookie Dominik Trnka scoring his first AIHL goal.
The Adrenaline did not only hold off the Rhinos, but they also completely shut them down to leave them scoreless in the third.
While the victory was much needed, it’s not over yet as Game 2 determines who stays ahead in the league standings. Last night’s regulation win saw Adelaide climb the ladder but securing a clean sweep will be crucial to hold that position.
