Ice Dogs take Saturday points

The Adelaide Adrenaline, proudly presented by Hards Transport, fell to the Sydney Ice Dogs 4-2 at the IceArena on Saturday night.

The Ice Dogs were aggressive throughout most of the game, matched by the Adrenaline in the third before a pair of late goals closed the door on three points for the Adrenaline.

The Ice Dogs dominated in shots for the first period 16-6 but were all turned away by Adelaide netminder Peter King. Despite the barrage from the visitors, it was the Adrenaline who opened the scoring with import Cameron Critchlow continuing on from last week, assisted by fellow Prince Edward Islander Cole MacMillan.

Adelaide then went on the defensive, having to face a series of penalty kills. Less than a minute after the first goal, Greg Oddy went to the box for hooking. With a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Critchlow then spent two minutes in the box for boarding, and to wrap up the first period, Sean Greer went for roughing after a conversation in front of the Adrenaline net. 

There were more opportunities and shots for the Adrenaline throughout the second but they failed to capitalise. Graham Charbonneau brought the puck up from the red line and gracefully weaved through to the net but was blocked by Ice Dogs goalie Jake Burgess. 

Ellesse Carini scored the first for the Ice Dogs mid way through the period, followed with a second soon after when King found himself out of position to stop a bid from Stephen Johnson.

A slashing call on ex-Adrenaline defensemen Andrew White provided Adelaide a much needed power play, and Darren Corstens joined forces with Critchlow and Babineau to level the game 2-2 and breathe life into the Adrenaline.

They came out all guns blazing and fired off a few shots on Burgess, but some slick passing in the Adrenaline zone put the Ice Dogs ahead, Grant Toulmin scoring back door.

Another Ice Dogs slashing call gave Adelaide a chance but they couldn’t convert the opportunity. With seconds to go, King made his way to the bench to give the Adrenaline for the extra attacker, it wasn't to be, Stephen Johnson sending the puck into the empty net to sign off 4-2.

We’re back today at 4:30pm to face the Ice Dogs for a Sunday rematch.
