He informed the club of his decision on Monday. Wehebe was the 2016 AIHL MVP after producing 52 points in 28 games for the Adrenaline last season. Wehebe has played for the Adrenaline since 2009.
While this decision is disappointing we believe that we have a strong club and will be able to contend with the best clubs in the AIHL as we showed this past weekend.
We will continue to rely on our strong local talent to push us towards our dream of a Goodall Cup.
Head coach Sami Mantere says he has total confidence in the players on our current roster.
"Obviously losing a player of Darge's quality is disappointing but I think the team already showed last weekend that we've got enough talent and desire to be successful with or without any individual player," he says. "If anything this is a chance for someone else to step up and take a bigger role. I think we've got the players that can do so."
The Adrenaline have plenty of young players and veterans who posses the ability to step up.
In Saturday's 4-3 win vs. the defending champion Northstars, 10 different players registered a point in a complete team effort.
We look forward to continue developing our players as we push for a Goodall Cup. Our focus shifts to the Melbourne Ice in what will be an incredibly challenging task against one of the best teams in the AIHL on the road.
Wehebe's first game of the season will likely be June 10 when the Adrenaline vs Canberra for a date in the Brave Cave. We look forward to playing the Brave down the road and wish Wehebe the best of luck for the season.
