The Adelaide Adrenaline, proudly presented by Hards Transport round out a difficult season with road games this weekend against the Newcastle North Stars and Sydney Bears.
This weekend’s games bring to an end the 2016 AIHL for Adelaide, and it has been a story of what could have been for the valiant Adrenaline.
Following last weekend’s heart-breaking losses to the CBR Brave at home, the Adrenaline can now boast an unwanted record, 12 one-goal losses in a single season.
However, the proud Adelaide outfit are determined to not dwell on the negatives but will rather be looking forward to rounding out the year on a high.
Further motivation for Adelaide comes in the form of record-breaker Wehebe Darge, who notched his 20th goal of the season last weekend against the Brave, making him the first Australian born-player to score 20 goals in consecutive AIHL seasons.
Darge has two more records in his sights on the road this weekend, the youngest player to score 100 AIHL goals and the South Australian single-season point record.
The 24-year-old has now scored 98 AIHL goals and two more on the road this weekend will see him break the record held jointly by Adelaide’s Greg Oddy, Melbourne Mustangs’ Jamie Bourke, and Melbourne Ice’s Liam Webster, all of whom were 25 when they notched their 100th goals.
With 50 points on the year (20G, 30A), Darge is just two points shy of breaking Greg Oddy’s single-season points record that he managed back in 2005 playing for the Avalanche.
The Adrenaline face the North Stars on Saturday at 5PM local time. Last time the two teams met was a tight affair right until late in the final period. Trailing by just one-goal in the third period, the Adrenaline pushed for an equaliser but were eventually over-run to lose 4-1.
On Sunday, the Adrenaline face the Sydney Bears again at 5PM local time. The last encounter between the two sides was a tight affair that went down to the wire, culminating in a shootout. Adelaide took the win on the road and will be looking to repeat their efforts this weekend.
