The Adelaide Adrenaline, proudly presented by Hards Transport play their final two home games of the season this weekend against the CBR Brave.
Despite only winning two games on home ice this season, the Adrenaline will be motivated to reclaim some pride in what has been a difficult season.
Saturday’s game will carry extra importance as the two sides play for the Beyond Blue Cup, an initiative started last season.
The Beyond Blue Cup helps raise awareness as well as providing support, guidance and assistance to those seeking help, coping with or recovering from depression and anxiety.
The cup was awarded for the first time last year and was won by CBR Brave in Canberra and the Adrenaline will be looking to capture the trophy for the first time and the games are sure to be played in the true spirit of hockey.
The weekend will also carry extra interest as Wehebe Darge looks to break two AIHL goal-scoring records.
The 24-year-old has scored 97 AIHL goals and three more this weekend would see him become the youngest player in history of the league to score 100 goals.
If Darge can break the record, he surpasses the likes Melbourne Mustangs’s Jamie Bourke, Melbourne Ice’s Liam Webster and Adelaide captain Greg Oddy who were all 25 when they achieved the 100-goal milestone.
Darge also stands on the verge of becoming the first Australian born player to score 20 goals in consecutive seasons.
He currently has 19 goals as well as 26 assists (45 points) in what has been his most prolific offensive season to date, eclipsing last year’s 44 points with four games still to play.
Whilst Darge has been an offensive powerhouse for the Adrenaline in 2016, CBR Brave are not lacking for firepower on the front-end either, boasting three of the top eight scorers in the AIHL.
The dynamic CBR offense, led by star Canadian import Mathieu Guertin could prove a handful for a depleted Adrenaline defensive core, who have been forced to play forwards Josef Rezek and Cole MacMillan on defense in recent weeks due to injury.
However, the Adrenaline could welcome back two key defenseman this weekend from injuries with Ted Fabijan skating this week for the first time since injuring his shoulder three weeks ago.
Import defenseman Zack Firlotte also remains an outside chance to suit up this weekend after making a good recovery from severe facial injuries.
Tickets are selling fast for both games and limited numbers are still available for Saturday. Purchase online to secure your seat.
