The Adelaide Adrenaline, proudly presented by Hards Transport, are on the road in Sydney this weekend for two games against the Ice Dogs and the Bears.
After a difficult home stand last weekend against the league-leading Melbourne Ice – including a Saturday game that saw the Adrenaline blown out of the water in a 9-1 loss – the team will be looking to rebound and stand a good chance against two Sydney sides that have shown inconsistent form in 2016.
This afternoon presents perhaps the best opportunity for the travelling Adrenaline, as the team gears up to face the struggling Ice Dogs.
The Ice Dogs are currently in eighth place in the AIHL standings – equal on points with Adelaide but have played three games more – and are a team the Adrenaline has had recent success against with two wins against the Dogs already in the books this season.
The game against the Ice Dogs will have extra meaning for Adrenaline goalie Pete King, who comes up against his former colleague Charlie Smart, who joined the Ice Dogs at the start of this year after one season in Adelaide.
King has been relishing his role as the undisputed number one goalie and looks forward to the opportunity to face his old team-mate.
“I'm definitely enjoying (the number one role), it’s pretty tiring work that’s for sure, especially when getting to the third period of games, but it’s a lot of fun out there,” King said.
“We’ve got two more games against the Ice Dogs so we want to make sure we clean sweep them.”
Sunday is an entirely different proposition for the Adrenaline, who will be seeking revenge against the Sydney Bears.
The last time the two teams met the Bears recorded two wins on Adelaide’s home ice and looked the superior side for the entirety of the weekend.
The Bears currently sit nine points clear of the Adrenaline in fifth place on the AIHL ladder with two games in hand.
A win on Saturday against the Ice Dogs would put extra pressure on both the Adrenaline and the Bears in Sunday’s contest and could significantly tighten the race for the final spot in the AIHL Finals.
