The Adelaide Adrenaline, proudly presented by Hards Transport jet off to Melbourne this weekend to face the Mustangs in a crucial double header.
After a tough home stand last weekend against the Perth Thunder, both of which the Adrenaline lost by one goal, the side is looking to rebound against a Mustangs outfit that has struggled so far this season.
With only two wins from nine games, the Mustangs have had their worst ever start to a season and find themselves languishing in seventh place on the AIHL ladder.
The Adrenaline sit one spot above the Mustangs in the standings, but with three games in hand on the home side, this weekend looms as critical in the broader context of the season.
Much like the Adrenaline, the Mustangs have been plagued by inconsistent play and mental lapses this season.
Leading 4-1 after two periods against the Sydney Ice Dogs last weekend, the Mustangs surrendered five third period goals to lose 6-4.
The Adrenaline too has been guilty of lapses in concentration throughout the season; an issue they hope will be resolved with six games now under the belt.
Adelaide will be bolstered by the return of two of its leading scorers from suspension with both Josef Rezek and TJ Battani coming back into the lineup after serving two game suspensions as a result of penalties incurred against the Ice Dogs the week prior.
Having pushed a strong Perth outfit right to the edge without Rezek and Battani, the Adrenaline will expect to go one better against the struggling Melbourne side.
Whilst this weekend is not do or die in the context of what is still a young season, the points are crucial to the visitors if they hope to catch a strong top four that are rapidly disappearing out in front of the pack.
The Adrenaline and Mustangs face each other at 5pm local time on Saturday and 4pm local time on Sunday.
