Adrenaline Tame Wild Ice Dogs

Adrenaline Tame Wild Ice Dogs

Myles Wallace

Looking for their first consecutive home victories of the season, the Adelaide Adrenaline once again played host to an enthusiastic and ever-improving Sydney Ice Dogs team this Sunday at the Ice Arena.

It was the Adrenaline however who came out on top yet again, securing a solid 4-2 victory in what was a rough and tumble encounter laden with big hits and violent scrums.

The Ice Dogs looked a frustrated outfit and let their emotions get the better of them late in the game as they found themselves unable to overcome an ever-ominous Adrenaline outfit.

Adrenaline Coach Ryan O’Handley was satisfied with the result but stressed the importance of securing home wins, especially against the bottom of the table Ice Dogs team.

“You absolutely have to win your games at home, so pleased with the two wins this weekend and puts us in a good spot now,” O’Handley said

The Adrenaline’s offence was lead by Wehebe Darge who chimed in dutifully with 2 goals and an assist after missing much of Saturday’s game after an early fight.

“It’s pretty rough you know, one fight and you’re out for the game kind of thing but I think I had a pretty good effort today and the team had a good win,” Darge said.

O’Handley was glowing with praise for Darge too and felt his offence was game was crucial in the victory.

“He’s just a solid player, he’s so quick and him being out yesterday really hurt our rhythm as a team and you could see today we had an extra little step out there,” O’Handley said.

Despite the eventual result the game began brightly for the Ice Dogs, who opened the scoring as they looked to rectify Saturday’s third period collapse that saw them surrender three goals to lose out 3-2.

The Adrenaline responded however, equalising late in the first thanks to a heavy shot from the blue-line off the stick of defenseman Sean Greer.

The game continued in a back and forth fashion throughout the middle frame with both sides trading goals less than twenty seconds apart late in the second period.

Rising to the challenge posed by the energetic Ice Dogs, the Adrenaline had the answer and took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission courtesy of Wehebe Darge’s second goal of the game.

The Adrenaline added a late goal courtesy of Ryan Remillard to secure a solid 4-2 victory as tempers flared and the emotions of a winless Ice Dogs outfit took over the game that saw the game end with a series of scrums and wrestling matches.

The Adrenaline next week travel to Perth in what looks to be a tough road trip against a real contender.

They will be without Tyler Grove for the first game of the weekend who should face suspension after a late fight in Sunday’s game.

The weekend in Perth will also be the first time goalie Charlie Smart returns to his home-city to face the team he left.

It promises to be another enthralling weekend of Ice Hockey.
