Local Signing: Matus Trnka

Matus Trnka joins the goaltending squad for the 2023 AIHL season.

Hailing from Slovakia, the young goaltender has solidified himself as a solid piece in Adelaide’s elite playing group. Last year with the Adelaide Avalanche, Trnka stopped some of the country’s best forwards in five games before suffering an injury. 

Having fully recovered this year, he returned with a vengeance for the AJIHL and U20 World Juniors. Between the tournaments he won two gold medals, won eight games, lost zero, posted three shutouts, and recorded an average save percentage of .966. He has spent the time since then playing in the Czech Republic.

Let’s just say we’re excited to see this guy stop some pucks this season.

Goalie coach Michael MacLean commented on Trnka’s traits and potential,

"Matus is a promising up and coming goaltender who has proven himself both locally, and internationally. Matus is ideal for coaching because not only does his athleticism and work ethic give him an edge, but also eagerness and receptiveness to learn. Matus is a highly valuable asset to this team, which he has proven, and will only continue to improve."
