Andrew Chen continues his Australian ice hockey career with the Adelaide Adrenaline for the 2023 AIHL season.
Having played with Australia’s junior national teams, the Adelaide Generals, the Adelaide Xtreme, the Adelaide Avalanche, and even high school hockey in Canada. Andrew now returns to the Adelaide Adrenaline.
Andrew spent his rookie season with the Adelaide Adrenaline in 2019, playing 27 games and taking home the team rookie of the year award.
He was a big contributor to the Adelaide Avalanche’s leading penalty kill percentage and defensive stats in the PHL last season, helping to bring home the championship.
The 23-year-old refers to himself as a “defensive defenceman”. His strategic thinking mixed with smooth skating and puck skills makes him difficult to forecheck. According to Andrew, the game is the ultimate testing phase; it shows the effort spent training was not for naught and that a consistent preparation leads to a consistent performance.
Stu Henly commented,
“We’re very happy to welcome Andrew back to the Adrenaline this year. He’s worked hard at growing his game over the last 2 seasons which has paid off. His work ethic and skating ability bring a high level of consistency to our defence corps.”
