The Adelaide Adrenaline kick-off their 2018 campaign today with a challenging road trip to Melbourne to play the Ice and the Mustangs.
They play the Ice on Saturday at 4:30pm Adelaide time which can be heard on MIXLR at www.mixlr.com/adelaide-
On Sunday the Adrenaline face the Mustangs at 3:30pm Adelaide time - which will be streamed on the AIHL YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAi9eqskddI or you can watch it LIVE at Benny Bar with the Official Adrenaline watch party at Stadium 19.
After this road trip the Adrenaline return home to play the Sydney Ice Dogs on April 28 and 29. Tickets are selling fast and fans are encouraged to get tickets before they sell out at http://bit.ly/adrenalinetickets.
This weekend is a meaningful road trip as the Adrenaline begin a chapter with a lot of new faces and a couple players out of the line up due to national team duties. The squad are also without import defenseman Alex Adams who is still with Knoxville Ice Bears in the Southern Professional Hockey League.
New Head Coach Jim Fuyarchuk is the man tasked with making the team gel. He has to be happy after the Adrenaline won three of four games in the hockey festival last weekend.
Here are three things to watch for this weekend:
1) How are the imports?
Every team in the AIHL relies heavily on their imports. This weekend Sebastian Andersson (goalie), Caleb Apperson (Defense) and Ales Kratoska (returning forward) make their 2018 debuts. Ales Kratoska played on the team last year but will have a regular role this season. He will be a marked man on the ice as the Adrenaline's lone import forward.
They are joined by local import Adam Piett. He is playing hockey with the Adelaide Red Wings in the IHSA Premier League competition and has earned an import spot while we wait for Alex Adams.
2) New Leadership Group
This weekend's assistant captains are Steve Best, Ales Kratoska and Zach Boyle. These are three new players tasked with a letter on their chest. How will they respond and help lead this team?
3) Stringer vs. Stringer
Adrenaline recruit Corey Stringer will go against his former club the Melbourne Mustangs on Sunday. To add to the intrigue he will go against his brother Matt Stringer in his former rink. Who will win the battle of the stringers?
