Meet one of the men who will be playing in net this weekend at the Hockey Festival over in Melbourne - Glen Forbes-White.
The 20-year-old South Aussie goalie took up the position only a few short years ago and has already earned himself a spot on an Australian Ice Hockey League roster.
He is part of a promising group of young South Australian goalies that includes Jeremy Friederich, who will also travel with the team this weekend, and Seb Woodlands.
Glen joined the team as back-up for Peter King and Matt Murphy to get a taste of the AIHL. This has driven him to become a regular starter in future seasons. Glen plied his trade in the junior ranks in Sweden this off-season.
The Adrenaline may be bringing in an import goalie this season, but the focus is to help develop goalies in South Australia so the Adrenaline can use a local as soon as possible.
We sat down with Glen and asked a few questions to help Adrenaline fans get to know the man behind the mask. Good luck to Glen and the team this weekend, we know you'll put your best foot forward!
1) What were you doing in Sweden? What was that experience like?
I was living in a small town called Tranås, training on the ice and in the gym twice a day for 6 months. It was an unreal experience, from the weather and scenery, to the people and the culture. Both the team and my billet family made it a really memorable trip.
2) 12 months ago you won the AJIHL championship as the Generals goalie. What has improved in your game since then?
Since then, I have worked hard to improve on my positioning, flexibility, vision, and movement around the net. I think these are key things for making the next step into the AIHL.
3) We have an import coming over this year to help work with our young goalies like yourself with the aim of having a local play in net as soon as next year. What are you hoping to learn from him?
I am hoping to learn how to refine my game by picking up small tips to tweak how I play. It will also be interesting to learn some off ice drills and mental preparation from someone who has played at a professional level.
4) You get to start this weekend in net. Describe what the feeling is knowing there's some increased responsibility for you over the years.
It's a strange feeling, but it's good. When I was growing up I never thought I'd be playing for the Adrenaline, but now I have the opportunity to prove myself, and hopefully make a difference on the team. I've always loved pushing myself, so I'm looking forward to the weekend.
5) It's a different team right now that last year. What's the vibe in the room?
It's a good vibe in the room. Everyone is really positive, everyone wants to be there, and everyone is willing to go the extra step further to make the Adrenaline a real threat this year.
