Welcome back Stapleton

The Adelaide Adrenaline are pleased to announce that forward Andrew Stapleton is returning to the club for the 2018 season.

Stapleton has a long hockey career in South Australia that includes playing in parts of four seasons. He was part of the last AIHL Championship winning team in Adelaide in 2009.

Stapleton, 36, will be expected to help lead what will be one of the youngest rosters in the AIHL by example, showing them the ropes of how to make it at the next level.

He's a very responsible forward in his own end and will hold his own very well in this league.

"I’m told a lot that I’m a defensive forward. I love the challenge of matching up against the opponents top forwards and shutting them down. Had some great battles against Cam (Critchlow), Ales and Joey in the premier league last season."

"I think just bringing a professional attitude and leading by example not just in games, but training and off ice as well. Providing positive reinforcement and trying to help build a winning attitude for years to come."

"Staples" has been a strong presence in the local league for the Adelaide Tigers. In his last three seasons he has 87 points in 57 games. He has represented South Australia at the last two "Open Age" Brown Tournaments.

"We're really excited to have Staples back with us," says Head Coach Sami Mantere, who played with Stapleton from 2009-2011. "He brings such a positive attitude and sets a great example for what is going to be a team with a lot of new faces and young players. This is a big part in helping create a positive identity in the team."

Stapleton and the Adrenaline hit the ice in pre-season action on April 14-15 in Melbourne and are opening their season at home April 28-29 vs. Sydney Ice Dogs.
