The Adelaide Adrenaline, proudly presented by Hards Transport, are teaming up with Mortgage Choice Malvern and Camp Quality to bring fans the first ever 'Adelaide Avalanche Heritage Day' this season.
For one game only on August 5, the Adrenaline will forfeit their beloved name and become 'the Adelaide Avalanche'. The club will wear custom made Adelaide Avalanche jerseys for that home game vs. Perth.
The Adrenaline were called the Avalanche from the first AIHL season in 2000 until 2008 when the club transitioned to a new era. The club will also honour life members and former Adelaide Ice Hockey greats over the weekend.
"We hope this becomes an annual event," says club president Eric Balnar. "I think it's important for all our fantastic new fans to get in touch with the club's storied history and for all the former players, sponsors and fans to get in touch with the new roots of the club."
There will only be 23 player jerseys made for the event which are donated by the fantastic support of club sponsor Greg Campbell / Mortgage Choice Malvern.
The one-time jerseys, made by local supplier Glen Foll and Pro Look Sports, will be auctioned online after the game with all the proceeds donated to Camp Quality.
"It's fantastic to be able to bring 2 together two of the things we love at Mortgage Choice in Malvern for this year's inaugural Heritage Round being Camp Quality and the Adelaide Adrenaline," says Greg Campbell. "We too are hoping like the Adrenaline that moving forward this will become an annual event in the AIHL and Adelaide Adrenaline calendar as it's always important to remember our history!"
Greg has even arranged for Giggle from Camp Quality to bring along two Camp Quality families on the day to help us support the players and event.
"It's great to be able to continue our support the Adrenaline but it's equally rewarding to give back and support the kids of Camp Quality in SA," says Campbell.
Fans will also be encouraged to take a pledge and donate money for every 'Mortgage Choice Malvern' goal scored over the weekend. If you donate $5 per goal, and the Adrenaline score 10 goals on the weekend, that will amount to a $50 donation to a fantastic cause.
Camp Quality's purpose is to create a better life for every child living with Cancer in Australia. They provide services for children and their families to help create a better life through building optimism and resilience through each stage of their journey.
"We encourage all our fans to support Camp Quality and have some fun over the weekend. We want to recognise our past, watch hockey, celebrate the future and provide some laughter, fun and valuable money for a great charity," says Balnar.
The Adrenaline will organise heritage events and ceremonies throughout the weekend.
Former Adrenaline captain Greg Oddy says it will be a great opportunity to re-engage with former players, coaches and staff.
"There are a lot of people who put a lot of work into making South Australian Ice Hockey possible. I hope this helps tell our story," he says.
