The Adelaide Adrenaline fought hard in the second game of their home opener weekend, in a close game, that just got out of reach in the final period.
The first period saw Canberra come out strong with some lop-sided puck possession, forcing Adelaide to work hard in the defensive end.
Saturday night’s game-winning goal-scorer, Bayley Kubara, opened the scoring ten minutes into the game, followed by Remy McGuiness cancelling that one out towards the end of the first period when he skated in alone and sniped the puck past Canberra’s netminder to tie things up.
Adelaide came out strong in the second period, but Canberra managed to match the home team's intensity, until Kyle MacPhail gave the Adrenaline their first lead of the game, slipping the puck five-hole to make it 2–1. However, just five minutes later, Mitchell Henning evened the score once again. This meant things were all square headied into the third period, with Adelaide remaining hopeful of securing their first win of the season.
Canberra had other plans — pulling away with three unanswered goals from Matthew Harvey, Dominic Canic, and Bayley Kubara, closing out the game in period 3.
Despite the loss, Adelaide’s defensive core showed grit, with youngster Daniel Koudelka putting in a standout performance from the blue line, consistently withstanding the pressure in the D-Zone and making some solid plays in the Offensive end as well.
The Adelaide Adrenaline walks away with one point from the Overtime Loss from Game One and there's plenty to build on from the weekend.
Adelaide will be back on home ice on the 10th and 11th of May, taking on the Melbourne Ice for another big weekend!
