Post-Game Recap: Adrenaline don't let CBR take win easily

Post-Game Recap: Adrenaline don't let CBR take win easily

Amanda Marasigan

The Adelaide Adrenaline skated against the CBR Brave yesterday after a tough 13-3 loss on Saturday.

Julian Friederich and Brett Radford scored the goals for Adelaide.

Adelaide had been on an 11-game losing streak prior to that day’s game – some games, closer than the final score suggested.

Matus Trnka started in net after his 30-save game on Saturday, but Jeremy Friederich started in net, and Trnka finished it off for him.

He faced a shot straight into the game from Canberra’s top line consisting of Austin Albrecht, Casey Kubara, and Felix Plouffe, but he shut the gates.

Canberra continued their breakouts with quality passing as Adelaide put all their efforts into playing offensively.

Coy Prevost had been clearing out the zone consistently, and Adelaide’s defense was getting better.

Both goalies faced ten shots with many turnovers taking place during the first period.

At the 8:24 mark, Tyler Kubara put Canberra on the lead, the assist going to Cameron Marks and Jackson Gallager.

Adelaide and Canberra continued the scoring in the second period, but Canberra maintained their lead.

Tyler Leeming made strategic plays with his quick decision-making. He was fast to get the puck and pass it on.

Andrew Chen headed to the penalty box, putting Adelaide on a penalty kill that they couldn’t get control of.

Carson Vance scored a powerplay goal with a quick shot to get it past Trnka once he got the puck from Joseph Hughes.

Adelaide responded to this, also with a powerplay goal, when Brett Radford earned Adelaide’s first goal of the game. He shot it from the blue line, and the puck trickled past CBR goalie Aleksi Toivonen.

Two minutes later, Daniel Chen put it in top-shelf to tie the game 2-2 from a Nathaniel Benson pass.

To end the second period, Austin Albrecht and Tyler Kubara extended Canberra’s lead, making it a 4-2 game.

Canberra outshot Adelaide and put Trnka to work hard in net.

Adelaide continued to battle for the puck and put pressure on Canberra.

Brett Radford was quick on his skates and chased down CBR players.

At 12:48, Charlie York intercepted the puck and scored Canberra’s fifth goal.

Adelaide had the powerplay opportunity but could not dominate, with plays going into their defensive zone. They denied any shorthanded goals.

Canberra scored their final goal with 8:56 left on the clock. Albrecht got it past Trnka – who had heavy traffic in front of him with players tangled up with each other.

Trnka faced 32 shots while Toivonen faced 20 shots, saving 18.

It was a better outcome than Saturday's game, considering it was a four-goal difference. Adelaide came onto the ice with better defense.

The Adrenaline played their final game of the season against the Melbourne Mustangs next Saturday at Adelaide’s IceArena.
