Local Signing: Nathaniel Benson

Nathaniel Benson joins the Adelaide Adrenaline for the 2023 AIHL season.

Adelaide’s “apple king” will be spending his time this year back with the Adelaide Adrenaline. Benson previously spent two seasons with the club before COVID, but has truly gone to another level since then.

Since Nathaniel last played with the Adrenaline:

• Spent time playing in Canada and Finland
• Two point-per-game player in local premier league
• League leader in assists and tied second for points in the NHSL
• Led the Adelaide Avalanche last year in points and assists
• Won championship with the Adelaide Avalanche
• IIHF U20 silver medal

Safe to say we think this guy has broken out. 

Having moved from Canada at a young age, the 22 year old has been a strong part of the Adelaide hockey world for most of his life. Nathaniel is extremely community focused, regularly assisting in the development of local junior programs and other initiatives. Whenever you ask him to do something, he’s probably already done it. 

His leading performance on the ice accompanied by his actions off the ice make him a prime role model for many around the rink, young and old, and an important piece in the Adrenaline team culture.

Having coached Nathaniel in the past, here is what head coach Stu Henly had to say,
“We are very excited to have Nat Benson signed for 2023. He brings a wealth of experience both domestically and internationally, including a championship pedigree that is invaluable for our young playing group. Very coachable and with a strong work ethic, Nat’s leadership by example will be relied upon this season.”
