The Adelaide Adrenaline are looking at a trio of forwards to add some edge in the 2018 season. They're looking to the local IHSA Premier League competition for some support and hope the fans will join them.
Steve Best, an Adelaide Red Wings product, is returning for another AIHL season and is looking to build of a string of strong games to solidify himself as a top AIHL player. He has some of the best hands in the game and has been working on his two-way play. Best is also an elite inline player, with a killer shot and some silky skills, and continus to develop each year.
He will be joined by Adelaide Redwings superstar Tyler Leeming, sponsored by the Adelaide Bite. From Canada originally but now a permanent resident, Leeming has torn up the Premier League in recent years by leading the Red Wings to three straight championships. He has been among the leaders in points every season.
Leeming adds some size, speed, hockey IQ and natural goal scoring ability.
"He's been a great fit in the room," says Sami Mantere, who played with Leeming on the Red Wings previously. "He's willing to do anything."
Best and Leeming play together on a line in the top level of the local competition and hope to find that chemistry once again.
"Just knowing each other really helps," says Best. "We've been playing together for a while know so that should translate above."
Tyler Leeming has 180 points in 46 career Premier League games. Steve Best 143 points in 52 career Premier League games. Leeming was also named the 2016 Browns Trophy MVP when he had 15 points in 5 games.
But they're not the only players we're excited to see this season. We think Adrenaline fans are going to love the work ethic of Falcons forward Quenton Tombleson. He adds a great dynamic to the team.
Tombleson is a very handy addition and will cause some headaches for the opposition. He's a point per game player in the local competition but has impressed the coaching staff with his hard-nosed and gritty play in trainings so far.
He has a great off-ice training program which includes Muay Thai.
"It's been a dream of mine for sometime to play for the Adrenaline so I've been working hard to be in shape," says Tombleson.
Players like Jordan Geyer are excited to have Tombleson on his team.
"I hate playing against him. He's scrappy, works hard and makes you earn everything. He really is not fun to play against," he says.
This kind of attitude has earned Tombleson a spot on the squad.
Ales Kratoska plays with Tombleson locally and said he's been really imporessed with Tombleson.
"He is good," said Kratoska after Tuesday's training to the club. "He works so hard and that attitude spreads to the other boys."
"We're hoping to have an edge this year," says president Eric Balnar. "Our two import defenseman are big and strong and not under 6'3. Corey Stringer is a tall, young and hungry player. Now you add the determined goal scoring from Leeming and the grit and heart of Tombleson and we should be a pretty hard team to play against."
