The Adelaide Adrenaline’s pre-season training program officially kicked off this week with two dry-land sessions, in preparation for the upcoming 2016 Australian Ice Hockey League season.
On Tuesday a good turnout of returning players and promising hopefuls, along with new coach Trevor Walsh joined pre-season Club Fitness Trainer, Katrina Dobo who put the guys through a torturous session on the unique obstacle course at Base Camp training centre at Royal Park on Tuesday followed by a high intensity interval training session at Bonython Park on Thursday.
“They did exceptionally well for a first time on the obstacle course, and there were a lot of positives on Thursday. Overall I'm impressed with the standard of fitness, but of course there is always room to improve,” she said. Katrina has set up a specific off-ice hockey program to establish where the players are in terms of their fitness levels. She plans to change the exercises over the next 12 weeks to keep it interesting and challenging.
Now in her fifth year working as a Physical Education teacher, Katrina embodies what a healthy disciplined lifestyle mean. She is also well versed in leadership and the sport of hockey, wearing the "C" for the Sharks in the South Australian Ice Hockey League. “I love fitness and training, riding, running, and I go to the gym six days a week in addition to ice hockey. I’ve been captain of the Sharks for the past two seasons and that role has taught me a lot about leadership and motivation, so there was no hesitation to train the Adrenaline players. It will be a great experience and a chance to kick start my personal training career.”
Her goal at this stage is to prepare the players by motivating them to work hard, and achieve productive results. “Trainings won't be easy, but I’m behind the team and I want to see them do our state proud.”
Coach Walsh was also impressed with the hard work put in by those who attended. “We had a pretty good turn out and I’m fairly happy with the overall fitness level at this point. The guys are representing the Adrenaline program well and they carried themselves with a professional approach at both sessions. We’re off to a good start, and I’m very confident of having a successful season”.
The Adrenaline open the 2016 AIHL campaign at home with a weekend series against the defending Goodall Cup Champions, Newcastle North Stars, Saturday 23rd April at The Ice Arena, Thebarton. Three game, six game and full season memberships are available now at
