Adrenaline fans have reason for belief after Adelaide won three of four pre-season games in Melbourne over the weekend.
The Adrenaline finished with a record of two regulation wins, one shootout win and one loss.
There were numerous things to get excited about including:
...and those are only just a few things! Here is a brief game summary in case you missed what happened on the weekend:
Game 1: Adelaide 3, CBR Brave 1
The Adrenaline opened the scoring early with Ales Kratoska driving the net, working hard in the corner and popping it out front to Jordan Geyer who opened the Adrenaline account.
Despite controlling the play and being on the power play, CBR Brave tied it up with a power play goal. It was 1-1 after one period.
Glen Forbes-White started in net and was solid from start to finish to give us a chance to win.
In the second and final period (modified format), the Adrenaline kept pressing. It was Quenton Tombleson who capitalised off a Brave turnover to put Adelaide up 2-1 with a Mortgage Choice Malvern Goal.
Late in the game with an empty net defenseman Zach Boyle airmailed a puck from his own goal line into the back of the net to seal the deal.
Game 2: Adelaide 4, Melbourne Mustangs 3 (Shootout)
The Mustangs presented a strong outfit with two imports in the line-up and only one player away on National Team duties. The Adrenaline jumped them early, however.
Ales Kratoska helped set up Sami Mantere to open the scoring in the first period. Then, Ales Kratoska capitalised on a break himself to put Adelaide up 2-0 with another Mortgage Choice Malvern Goal.
16-year-old Jeremy Friederich made his first start in net and survived a swarm of shots. But the Mustangs finally broke the young goalie with a power play goal and another score shortly after.
With about four minutes to go in the last period. Ales Kratoska forced a turnover, stormed the net on a breakaway but was robbed by the Mustangs goalie. The puck popped out in the crease for 17-year-old Nathaniel Benson who performed mop up duty and put it in the top corner.
Adelaide tried to close out the game with an empty net but kept missing their opportunity. With just eight seconds left in regulation Melbourne was rewarded for their pressure and tied the game.
Enter the shootout. Jeremy Friederich was unbelievable, making three huge saves in the tiebreaker. A goal from Tyler Leeming was all the Adrenaline needed to earn the second win in the day.
Game 3: Melbourne Ice 6, Adelaide Adrenaline 2
After an hour break, the Adrenaline stepped back on the ice. They jumped on the Ice early with a goal from well outside the blue-line from Andrew Stapleton. Despite a quick retaliation, Quenton Tombleson scored again to put Adelaide up 2-1 vs. the defending champions.
But it all went sideways after the Adrenaline allowed two shorthanded goals in a space of a minute and the team struggled to recover.
Ice Import Dillon Lawrence scored three goals while the other Ice import Nate Fleming added two goals of his own. It was certainly a learning experience for the young Adrenaline side who finished the day on a disappointing note.
Game 4: Adelaide Adrenaline 4, CBR Brave 2
Adelaide finished the weekend on a positive not with a complete victory vs. the CBR Brave. The Adrenaline outshot Canberra 26-19 with Jeremy Friederich standing tall in net.
The Adrenaline used an Adam Piett power play goal to hold a 1-0 lead after one period depsite outshooting Melbourne 12-6.
The team scored two more goals to stretch a lead to 3-0 thanks to Quenton Tombleson and Zach Boyle.
CBR fought back and it was a booming shot from the point from new recruit Darcy Flanagan who put the opponent down 1.
With an empty net, a great effort from Ales Kratoska popped the puck free. He then scooped up a loose puck, put it in front of the net for Adam Piett who scored his second goal of the game.
It was an excellent finish to the weekend.
The Adrenaline start the season for real April 21 and 22 when they travel to Melbourne to play the Ice and the Mustangs.
We're back at the IceArena on April 28 and 29 for our home opener weekend. Tickets are on sale now from https://bit.ly/adrenalinetickets |
