The Adelaide Adrenaline, proudly presented by Hards Transport, have signed former Canadian University starting goaltender Matt Murphy to an import contract.

Murphy, a product of Nova Scotia in Canada, has spent the last five years playing hockey in the Canadian University system. He played at the University of Windsor before heading to Royal Military College (RMC) to finish his school playing career. 

He will train with the club for the first time tomorrow. 

While his University numbers may not jump off the page, Adrenaline fans have every reason to get excited about Murphy. His colleagues, coaches, players and teammates rave about his demenour and performance.  

RMC has finished bottom of the table the last couple seasons. However, Murphy faced the most shots in the Ontario conference while having the least amount of goal support. RMC was improved this season and knocked off some elite programs such as the Carleton Ravens and National Championship attendee Queens Golden Gaels.

RMC coach Richard Lim says Murphy is an outstanding person, teammate and leader.

"Matt came into a tough situation with a team that has had much success. He immediately helped turn our program around both on and off the ice. His numbers may not be spectacular but I truly believe he is an elite goalie in the conference," he says.

"He did a great job of bringing in our rookies under his wing and showing them how to be professionals," he adds.

Another rival coach in the OUA completely agrees with this assesment. He said Matt was one of the better goalies in the conference.

"Whenever we played RMC the one guy we had too look out for is Matt. I truly believe he was one of the best goalies in the league the last two seasons but he unfortunately did not have the same calibre team as us in front of him. If you put Matt in net on the best teams in the country he would be among the statistical leaders," he says.

Murphy had a .909 save percentage in his final year with RMC despite facing the most shots in the competition. 

On top of that, Murphy is a fantastic person. He is expected to bring a positive attitude in the locker room.
