Adrenaline announce new head coach
Sunday, June 26, 2016 - Submitted by Myles Wallace
The Adelaide Adrenaline, proudly presented by Hards Transport announce the appointment of Eric Lien as head coach for the remainder of the 2016 AIHL season.

A former player and long-time coach, Eric brings a wealth of experience and a great hockey mind to the club. He has most recently spent time coaching in Newcastle at the Elite Bantam National Development Camp.

In 2014 Eric was appointed as an assistant coach for the Australian Men’s National Ice Hockey Team. He travelled with the team in 2014 to Belgrade, Serbia and in 2015 to Reykjavik, Iceland for the IIHF Division 2A World Championships.

He has previously been a member of the Adrenaline coaching fraternity, acting as an assistant coach between 2011-14.

Whilst the appoint comes under difficult circumstances, Eric believes there already exists a talented and unified group that will respond to his guidance.

“I need the guys to trust that my time playing and coaching in the AIHL and for the National Senior team has given me the skills necessary to be a part of the solution,” Lien said.

“Equally by having known a lot of these players they will have already earned some trust from me. This will be very important going forward because we don’t have much margin for error.”

Lien has just over a week with his squad before he faces a tough first assignment at home, with the Adrenaline set to face the league-leading Melbourne Ice on July 2nd and 3rd.

Whilst this doesn’t give the newly appointed coach a lot of time with the team, Lien believes the tools for success are in place already.
“We are going to be a hard working team that will be fun to watch and we are going to enjoy playing hockey,” Lien said.

“My role will not be to change everything, because everything isn’t broken. What is needed is for the team to hit the ice every week believing they are good enough to beat any other team in this league.”
