One of Adelaide's greatest ice hockey players of all time now has the reigns to the Adrenaline. The Adelaide Adrenaline Ice Hockey club are excited to announce the appointment of new head coach Trevor Walsh. Trevor has been involved in South Australian Ice Hockey for almost 20 years both as a player and most recently as assistant coach in 2015. Originally from Canada, Trevor spent four seasons in the OHL before making his way to Australia, where he has represented Adelaide in over 100 games, as well as making 15 appearances for his adopted country. His numbers in the AIHL are staggering. Between 1999 and 2008, Trevor scored 129 goals, had 100 assists and 229 points in just 117 games. Since his time as a player with Adelaide, Trevor has spent time in Queensland and back in Canada, before returning to Adelaide in November last year. Walsh says he believes Adelaide has the talent to win it all. “I have always seen Adelaide as having a great pool of local talent, possibly the best in the country," he says. "The focus for me is not only to build a championship Ice Hockey club, but also to build and develop a program for the future of Ice Hockey in South Australia. We want South Australians to be playing Pro Hockey both locally and overseas” Walsh also believes that the team is not far off from winning the Goodall Cup. “The last two games of last season were a really good example of the talent that we have here in Adelaide, and how the guys came together as an unselfish team. I just want to carry on from where we left off last season. I aim to change some things with our training process, in particular our preparation before the season," says Walsh. His other focus is to work on making the team appealing to high calibre imports to support our local talent. Adelaide Adrenaline captain Greg Oddy is also excited about the new hire. “The boys are thrilled to have Walshy on board as Head Coach in 2016. He is the type of guy that will come in and take control, make guys more accountable when we’re not performing at the level that we think we should be," says Oddy, a former teammate of Walsh. "He will bring a no-nonsense approach and if his coaching style is anything like the way he played then I think the club and the fans are in for an exciting ride in 2016”. Outgoing coach and new Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations, Ryan O’Handley agrees. “Trevor is well respected by the players and he has a great mind for hockey. He is fierce competitor and I look forward to working with him to bring a championship back to Adelaide," he says. Feel free to post your messages of congratulations to Trevor on our Facebook page, and we hope you are as excited as we are.
